First order of business is to build inventory. You might come into my office and think there is NO WAY that I would need more books...but I do.
I decided that I would venture out on my first buying trip. "Buying Trip" sounds fancy, but in reality, my husband was traveling to Detroit for work and I just tagged along and crashed at his hotel.
I have been to Detroit a handful of times for the token Tigers game and knew little about the city. The last thing I wanted was to end up by myself in a scary neighborhood so I researched the area, asked friends, and mapped my route.
I packed a cooler of Mountain Dew and off I went! Everything was perfect as I drove the 2.5 hours in my nice warm car listening to music. However, once I got in the city and actually had to start exiting my vehicle, I quickly realized what a wind chill of -24 felt like. $*%#$( &*$@^
Loading 100's of books in the FREEZING cold was not something I bargained for. By the end of the first day my hands were dry and cracked. After day two, they were bleeding. No lie.
Silver lining? I got to meet the owner of this beautiful car...
Just kidding. I was safely locked in my car when I took this picture. If you zoom in...those are not living people. I do wonder what the owner looked like but there was not a chance I was going to stick around to find out. So much for resale value. I bet his Mom was pissed!
Overall, it was a successful trip. I was able to cover half the city and will be back to conquer the rest when it is warmer.
Now...just to find room for the kids...
