Person: "What do you do for a living?"
Me: "I sell books online."
Person: "Oh" <confused stare>
I clearly need to work on my elevator speech! I think most people initially think I am a regular book dealer, selling books for people to read. I try to explain it better but ultimately end up just showing them my website. The visual helps women to understand while men still remain confused and change the subject. While decorative books are not the only thing sold by Elements, they consist of a large part of the assortment.
What are decorative books? They are actual books, new and old, that have an aesthetic matching current interior design palettes and trends.
Books transcend multiple styles. Old books with tattered pages and faded spines work well for French Country or Farmhouse styles.
Newer books in various colors work with contemporary or midcentury modern styles.
There are many reasons why books are a great addition to your home decor.
1. They add a pop of color in different tones. You never want your home decor to be too matchy, matchy. Having books in a range of tones can add the perfect amount of variation.
2. They add height to your shelf or mantel design. Organizing decorative items at different heights is important to make it visually pleasing. This can be done by using different sized items as well. However, when all items start on the same level, it can look odd.
3. You will notice that many of my book sets have gold or silver lettering on the spine. Gold has made an incredible come back. It is used in design elements as well as hardware. However, adding too many metals can get overwhelming. The gold or silver lettering add just enough to tie everything together.
4. Most importantly, books always make you look smart. Your guests don't need to know that you never cracked the cover. Just having them displayed shows you are an intellectual genius. Hopefully things don't get awkward if they start asking you about certain authors you like!
Now, if I could just take all of that and put it in two sentences that would be great. <Hurumph> Feel free to send me your ideas!
